Heather Morris: From SYTYCD Reject to Glee

Heather Morris, who plays the lovable Brittany on Glee, was interviewed by the Boston Herald and chats about being rejected from "So You Think You Can Dance," dancing with Beyonce on the “Single Ladies” tour, and how she landed her role on the hit FOX TV series.

In early 2009, Morris had just started taking acting lessons when she got a call from choreographer Zach Woodlee, who had worked with Morris on “Single Ladies” and wanted her to teach the “Glee” cast the choreography for the popular dance. Woodlee was her biggest fan and wanted to get her on the show, Morris said.

“I was supposed to read for (executive producer) Ryan Murphy a couple times, and every time I would see him, he would just ask me a couple of questions,” she said.

A week after her stint on “Glee” ended, she got a call that she was cast as Brittany. As the season evolved, Brittany scored more airtime and some nutty one-liners. (Sample: “I’m pretty sure my cat’s been reading my diary.”)

“We always play between scenes. I started pretending Brittany was this dumb character,” said Morris, who grew up in Scottsdale, Ariz. “I would always do it for Ryan, and he loved it and it made him laugh.”
